Press still lifes

Sculptures

2001 Press still lifes

“Press still life”, is a deepening in the reflection with respect to the violence facing the possible plastic configurations that a work of these characteristics can reach. It is a metaphor for inequalities and injustice that transcends individualities. In this set of sculptures and installations, each piece speaks for itself of the physical and psychological mutilations suffered by the weakest, but also of the disturbing world in which we are unwittingly immersed and in which the press collects us as passive spectators.

Small still lifes «celebrate» the sad triumph of violence, which from the highest strata of society interfere in the intimate daily lives of those who try —without success— to survive the horror peacefully. Altars that inevitably remind us of others, which throughout history have been the symbol of complicity, injustice and ridicule.

Finally, we must highlight the «poverty» of materials, where recycling is a central and active part of the plastic proposal. The use of these materials also brings us closer to the corners of the human being where everything is possible, and where all strata are represented in a single container, to bring us closer in a living way to the margins of a taxing and consumerist society, while stuffed with scraps.
