1998-2017 HETERONYMS: OF AN INTERSECTION OF PROCESSES
of Libraries and Archives
of Parties and de/Feat
“Triptych”, Marga Ximenez's 1984 tapestry, is transformed into “of Parties and de/Feats” into a conceptual archive that goes on a historical journey, where wealth and power are its paradigmatic meaning. Feliu Esteve, in his intervention, reminds us that even today, children are exploited in weaving companies «thanks» to their skilful and small hands.
«Marga Ximenez focuses the vulnerability, showing wounds and abuses of power. The de-construction of the hegemonic structures crosses installations such as “of Parties and de/Feats (2017) - Triptych”, Marga Ximenez (1984) in which the heteronymous Feliu Esteve takes part in the work of Marga Ximenez —rolling up the high heald tapestry— to highlight the connotation of power and wealth, which has traditionally accompanied the history of tapestries, and denounce the labor exploitation of children by complementing the work with articles that refer to child abuse. Feliu Esteve continues to point out such realities in a series of tiny books with two opposite sides: one shows images of upholstered interiors and eighteenth-century ballrooms designed for the enjoyment of high society, and in another exposes photographs taken from the press of child soldiers, the prisoners' torture in the Iraq war, and Amina Lawal Kurami's death sentence to be stoned for adultery, which eventually stopped by international community pressure. Heteronyms subvert and break down dominant narratives, create contranarratives, and also review the art techniques developed by Marga Ximenez, recycling what is recycled».
