MX Espai 1010, shows, in basically archival format, “Re-visions” a collection of information by Àngels Sans, Ramon Guillen-Balmes, Tom Pupkiewicz, Mariona Sanahuja and Marga Ximenez. These are some of the artists who were part of the collective exhibition, "Labyrinths", and the individual, "Showcase", all presented in 1984, in a curation of Pilar Parcerisas, for Espai 10 of the Joan Miró Foundation.

From the MX Espai 1010 press release. In the 1970s and 1980s, textile art was freed from its dependence on painting and flat support, incorporating in its process the plastic speculations of the rest of the arts. Research work is carried out in relation to the environment, where fiber, weft and «non-noble» materials become sculptural materials and environmental works.

In 1984 "Labyrinths" was inaugurated in Espai 10 of the Joan Miró Foundation and moved a few months later to the Cultural Circle of the Pension Fund of Granollers, a few months before "Showcase" showed an individual installation by Marga Ximenez in the same space. Some of these pieces were presented at the International Art Festival in Brussels in 1985.

Exhibitions such as "Labyrinths" and “Showcase” both curated by Pilar Parcerisas are a sample of the textile art that was made in Catalonia, connecting with what was done in the rest of European countries and of which the Lausanne Biennial was its best showcase until 1993, when the Biennial decided on its demise to consider textile art to be part of art with «capital letters» and therefore such a specific event is no longer appropriate.

At the moment and until May 25, you can see at the Joan Miró Foundation, the exhibition “Having made a place where artists have the right to make mistakes. Stories from Espai 10 and Espai 13 of the Miró Foundation”, curated by Manuel Segade. This exhibition mentions these two exhibitions.

It is in this context that, from the MX Espai 1010, we want to pay tribute to the late artist Àngels Sans, one of the pioneers of the new textile art in Catalonia and who participated in the collective exhibition, "Labyrinths", as we also want to remember the artist and friend, Ramon Guillen-Balmes with a small sample of his magnificent work.

The exhibition, basically in archive format, “Re-visions” collects information from Àngels Sans, Ramon Guillen-Balmes, Tom Pupkiewicz, Mariona Sanahuja, Dominique Charrié, Anita Gandahl, Lluís Llibre, Lisa Rehsteiner, Elena Tondi and Marga Ximenez , authors who were part of the collective exhibition, “Labyrinths”, and the individual, “Showcase”, mentioned above.

We would like to thank Joan Alcaraz for all the material she has provided us with Àngels Sans and Sensi Cervantes for their contribution to the work of Ramon Guillen Balmes.

ROUTE
