2017 of Private and Public

These drawings, of light line, obtained by lime with charcoal paper, as if it were a text typed with machine type or marking, like cloths before cutting patterns, explore the non-visions of private rooms. They accompanied the work “Blok2Apartament8” of my heteronym Almira Olmayan, in the exhibition, "Heteronyms: of an intersection of processes", at the Maristany Art Centre in 2017.

These two series explore the territory of drawing by the hand of very fine metal cables as if it were a pencil with an infinite graffiti mine who wanted to three-dimensionalize in the air the gestures we leave on paper when we draw with
a pencil. Some of these drawings would incorporate elements that will appear in 1996 in the sculptures of the series "Perfidious Profiles" and in 2017 in the installation "of Navigation and Cataloguing".

Drawn territories

These works, some of them large format, are drawings that go beyond their own techniques.

They take the language of the high class as a tool of construction and its materials as expressive elements apart from the strictly formal functions.

They reflect the medieval legacy of tapestry recovered by Jean Lurçat and recurretly updated by the Lausanne Biennials.

They are drawings or writings that, like in the tapestry, the relationship with space in some pieces is also part of the dialogue that takes place between the elements that make them up.

In this works wefts and warps overlap in transparency as if the loom that supported them had never existed, or trunks and cones of various threads, open and pressed by an imaginary press, want to convey to us the non-limits of the drawn territories.

These sculptural pieces maintain the concept of the tapestry, as a work of large format, made with textiles and a specific technique, but already in many cases subverting the language that is its own, well in the measures, leaving the wall, or the fabric on the high ledge.

Scanning will be the warp that will support a plot that will set up new symbolic visualizations:

- a white rhombus as a point symbol or a linen piece unfolded and with stitches sewn in childhood, will be part of female body.
- a bed that when presented vertically shows us a gutted interior and a woven front between the embroidery and the tapestry, and with spindles spinning maternal genealogies.
- a coat that refers us to the absurdity of the fashion world, or a jacket showing in its construction process itself and in the patterns that make it up, the game of the subversion of languages.
- hats that, like a print made with the ancestral gesture of the fabric, also put, as a central element of the piece, the idea of the body.

In this group of pieces, warp and weft come together to explore the architectural possibilities that the art of tapestry has in itself from the elements that make it up and in its historical function as an object related to living spaces.

They are works that tri-dimension elements of the tapestry language, a naked craft, where each gesture is visible, and it is in the exploration of this gesture that we can follow with our eyes the spiral thread that welcomes the idea of movement.

Gestures that scan the threads as if they were infinite calligraphy that wanted to describe the idea of time inscribed in a small part of a Gothic tapestry.

A counterpoint between the guidelines of tradition and a dynamic that will also give artisanal processes the authority of artistic language without losing the conceptual contents.

The loom, the industrial and the artisan, and everything that has represented socially and culturally in the world of the textile, has also been center of my interest, for that reason in some pieces incorporate it in format frame with the will of explore all those aspects that integrate it into the upholstery language, highlighting the production process and the tools as part of the work. That is why also the sequential pieces, the diptychs and triptychs.

In these pieces we find warp and weft making the loom-frame that supports them disappear, but leaving their presence as if they were more embroidered locks or woven altarpieces.

Maps and rivers, villages and margins, fields and fields, landmarks and signs, still reference pieces of my profession as a pattern designer, an observer covered by an unattainable nature, a cartoonist with pencils and threads in her hands.
